Making Care Homes Safer During the Pandemic
How our specialist cleaning restored safe access for family visits at a time when it mattered most.
The Challenge
In December 2020, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, three large nursing homes needed our help to prepare for essential outdoor family visits.
They were using temporary outdoor tents so residents could see their loved ones safely. The trouble was, the outdoor paths and patios hadn’t been cleaned in years.
With winter setting in, combined with a buildup of algae and moss, these areas became dangerously slippery. This put their already vulnerable residents at risk – as well as their visiting families.
The Solution
The job needed doing quickly and effectively so visits could go ahead.
Our team assessed all three sites and put a plan in place using specialist stone-cleaning agents and tools to break down organic growth without causing harm to the environment or surrounding plants.
We used high-powered surface cleaners, which deliver a consistent circular jet wash pattern. This method cleans thoroughly and evenly across large areas without damaging stone or paving.
The cleaning solution broke down the algae, which we then removed with precision and care.
The Outcome
In under 72 hours, all three nursing homes were transformed.
The previously dangerous and unsightly walkways became safe and clean spaces for families to gather – at a time when this meant the world.
The work not only made the site safer, but played a small yet meaningful role in bringing people together during an incredibly isolating time.
